Farewell to a tireless fighter for banana workers in Côte d’Ivoire

Monday, October 25th, 2021 in: News

Banana Link is saddened to report the recent passing of Marie Fiankan, a representative of the International Union of Foodworkers (IUF) in Côte d’Ivoire.

Recorded below in English and French is a tribute to Marie from Claudelle Kouadio of the Autonomous Trade Union of SCB Workers (SYNATRA-SCB).

Marie a toujours dit “Ça va.

“Marie was a tireless fighter. Throughout her life, she fought for workers’ rights in all areas of work. From banana plantations, to hotels, to male and female domestic workers.

It must be remembered that she never stopped working towards social justice for women.
Marie always said ‘I’m fine. I am well’, even when it seemed to us that she was frail.
Marie fought until the very end.”
